Beyond the Bassline wins big at Museum and Heritage Awards 2025!

Beyond the Bassline scooped an award at the Museum and Heritage Awards Show 2025 last week (15th May), winning the prize for Temporary or Touring Exhibition of the Year (budget more than £80k). This is the second time the exhibition has been honoured with an award, after the accompanying book to Beyond the Bassline won The Association for Cultural Enterprises Award for Best Publication.

BMRU Director Mykaell Riley was in attendance at the awards, along with co-curators and collaborators from the British Library. It was a night of celebration and reflection on the success of the exhibition, as well as the immense impact Beyond the Bassline has had on Black-British music studies and cultural representation.

The Museum and Heritage Awards Committee said of the exhibition: “This winning exhibition demonstrated bold new direction, reaching and engaging diverse audiences with real impact. Joyous, transformative, and educational, it delivered impressive visitor numbers, strong evaluation, and lasting change — all achieved at remarkable pace by a driven and passionate team.”
