BMRU to collaborate with Young Sounds on new AHRC project

The music education charity Young Sounds, in partnership with the Black Music Research Unit, has been awarded AHRC Spoke Project funding. Over the next year, the team will launch the EQUALIZE project, aimed at tackling the underrepresentation of Black-British music in schools. This will involve the rollout of summer schools in Bradford and Birmingham, and the development of an interactive model that will familiarise teaching staff in schools with modes of integrating Black-British music into school music curriculums. The funding is administered as part of the University of Southampton’s AHRC funded Hub for Public Engagement with Music Research. To read more about the EQUALIZE project, please see here.
