BMRU’s Mykaell Riley stars in Southampton’s Jazz Story

The BMRU’s professor Mykaell Riley had a busy weekend – heading down to Southampton for a one-night only event chronicling the history of jazz. Titled Southampton’s Jazz Story, the event saw a 12-piece house band, 6 vocalists, and a host of guest speakers – Mykaell included – to tell the story of how jazz came to Southampton, intermingled with the social and cultural history of the port city and its connections to Black history. Mykaell took on the role of narrator, facilitating a brilliant night of storytelling and music. A fitting event for Black History Month, and another way in which the BMRU is promoting Black-British musical history across the UK. Well done, Mykaell!
